The Dewitt C. Alfred, MD Psychiatric Symposium
CALL FOR ABSTRACTS FOR POSTER PRESENTATION
The Morehouse School of Medicine Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences recognizes the need for equity advancement in the psychiatric workforce. Since 1998, it has held an annual symposium to honor its founding chairperson, Dewitt C. Alfred Jr., MD. The symposium is aimed at supporting the training and development of underrepresented minoritized (URM) resident psychiatrists by highlighting research and facilitating scientific exchange. The 2025 symposium will be held on the evening of May 1st through the morning of May 3rd at the Kimpton Overland Hotel in Atlanta, GA.
Below are the parameters for submission of an academic poster for presentation consideration at the virtual poster session that will be held from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM during the week of March 17th through 21st 2025. Winners of the virtual poster session will be invited to present at the Symposium.
SUBMISSION INSTRUCTIONS AND GUIDELINES
- Registration: All presenting authors are required to register/pre-register for the symposium.
- Deadline: All abstracts for the poster must be submitted to MSM Psychiatry Department by February 1st, 2025.
- Eligibility: To be eligible for a poster presentation you must be currently enrolled in a psychiatry residency program.
- Poster Title, Author(s), and Affiliation(s).
- Abstracts should be a maximum of 500-word count.
- Body of the abstract narrative:
- Define all abbreviations the first time that they appear in the abstract narrative.
- Body of the abstract narrative:
- Purpose-Explain the importance of the topical area, goal(s) and objective(s).
- Methods-Explain the procedure and strategy used to gather the information presented.
- Results/Preliminary Findings-What did you find when you performed the analysis of the information presented?
- Discussion/Conclusion-how do the reported findings contribute to knowledge in the field of psychiatry? For residency training?
ABSTRACT GRADING CRITERIA
- 1. Importance and relevance of the topic in the field of psychiatry.
- 2. Innovation and contribution to knowledge base.
- 3. Clarity and completeness of the content.
- 4. Relatability of practical application concerning residency training.
- 5. Potential contributions to science/society.
