City of South Fulton Honors MSM's Dr. Jarrod Lockhart establishing 12/12/23 as Dr. Jarrod Wesley Lockhart Day
City of South Fulton - Lockhart Day

Dr. Jarrod Lockhart was honored by the City of South Fulton for the work he does at Morehouse School of Medicine and proclaimed December 12 to be Dr. Jarrod Wesley Lockhart Day.

Dr. Lockhart said he was "beyond grateful" for the recognition and that his parents/family, MSM colleagues, and students attended the ceremony.

"I am super honored that the student and community work I’m passionate about doing every day at Morehouse School of Medicine is being recognized by my city," Dr. Lockhart said. "God continues to show me that he’s looking out for me and the importance of networking and sharing what I do. Someone making the decision to bring my name up in rooms where I wasn’t present and positioned God to do the rest. My work is not just a job, it’s heart-work and a form of ministry, and I do it with some of the best people and a team who I now call family."

Students were put into pairs as they took turns in serving as the doctor and patient. Kudus to IPE Student Council President, MD Student Simone Salter, and their Community Outreach Chairs, MSMS Students Jenae Sanders and Clinton Emeh, for organizing the MSM students who came and came and participated. The IPE Student Council is part of our institution’s Quality Enhancement Plan and functions under faculty leadership from Dr. Ashley K. Mitchell and Dr. Meryl McNeal. Dr. Lisa Hinton, Clayton County District Magnet Lead, provided the following feedback of the visit:

“Good morning Dr. Lockhart,

I just want to express my gratitude once again to you and your team for the school visit on Friday, October 27 with the medical students. Our students were so excited to see these students in their roles as medical students. Some of the verbal feedback I received included comments such as "they look like me", "they didn't talk over my head", "they were patient with me”, and "they encouraged me". I think that our students left that session believing they can accomplish anything. I'd like our team to collaborate with you so that we can bring those students back sometime next semester, if possible.  Let me know your thoughts and availability and my team and I can work something out.”

This is the type of feedback we love to hear and look forward to utilizing the partnership between HCOP Academy and the IPE Student Council to provide opportunities like these to other schools and students across the Atlanta area.
