Network for Community-engaged Primary Care Research (NCPCR)

Morehouse School of Medicine is now part of a larger consortium of CEAL Network for Community-Engaged Primary Care Research (NCPCR) (Spanish) which will support the Community Engagement Alliance (CEAL) Against Social Determinents of Health (SDOH) and Chronic Disease (CD) Disparities. This consortium includes a diverse ecosystem of partners and trusted leaders engaging in and working with communities across the country. CEAL, guided by community-engaged researchers and supported by trusted community organizations and messengers, is an NIH effort co-led by the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) and the National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities (NIMHD).

The National Center for Primary Care (NCPC) at Morehouse School of Medicine is conducting a study to narrow the health inequities gap among disproportionately impacted populations served by the primary care safety net across the southeastern United States (US) and nationally.

Project methods include:

• Leveraging national and regional coalitions across SERCN and CEAL to build an NCPCR Dissemination Network to facilitate an exchange of educational materials and messaging, shared human capital, and collaborative models to build a strong platform for CEAL activities in the primary care safety net in the Southeastern region.
• Conduct in-depth interviews with clinicians, patients, and quality improvement staff, use electronic health records, health care utilization and quality improvement data to examine the impact of models used on health outcomes and health equity.
• Perform secondary data analysis of existing data and identify and spread innovative preventive health care, and post-acute sequelae SARS-CoV-2 infection (PASC) care models that emerged during the pandemic and measure the impact of these programs on health equity outcomes.
• Conduct a cluster randomized control trial that tests a PASC practice level intervention identified/designed based on the environmental assessment.
