About Us

The MSM research enterprise was built by strategically developing discrete scientific areas relevant to the health of minority communities.

Mission

To provide effective, sustainable mentoring to the faculty at Morehouse School of Medicine.

Vision

Build a critical level of biomedical research capability, productivity, and training to pursue multidisciplinary approaches and to translate discovery science into health equity.

The Mentoring M.E. program was funded by the Research Centers in Minority Institutions (RCMI) G-12 program, which develops and strengthens the research infrastructure necessary to conduct state-of-the-art basic science and clinical research. Mentoring Academy Program Goals

  • To mentor those who will mentor others and provide effective, sustainable mentoring to the faculty at Morehouse School of Medicine.
  • Support and facilitate faculty career development through team mentoring to mentee.
  • To provide all junior and midcareer faculty mentees with a career mentor.
  • Build a mentoring database of processes and outcomes to support and evaluate mentoring activities.
  • Provide a strong central infrastructure, resources and leadership to support faculty mentoring at MSM.

The Mentoring Academy promotes the development of this team science through the conduct of multidisciplinary research and the use of team/peer mentoring for mentees. A critical element of the Mentoring Academy is the use of team and peer mentoring. This mentoring model provides benefits for the mentee as he/she applies multidisciplinary methods of discovery and for the mentors as they bring fresh perspectives to the research question they are examining. Synergy is created when investigators from multiple disciplines come together that will result in the development of new scientific approaches.
