Message from the Chairman

The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology is committed to providing programs in education, research and service that will improve the health and well-being of individuals and communities, particularly those that are underserved.  Our department provides education and training to medical students, and has a four-year accredited residency-training program in obstetrics and gynecology. We provide patient care at Grady Memorial Hospital, South Fulton Medical Center and the Veterans Administration. Department faculty also attend to private patients in our faculty group practice and at other community hospitals. The department is involved in innovative research in women's health and cancer.

Our faculty clinicians include general obstetricians, gynecologists, and subspecialty-trained physicians in maternal-fetal medicine, gynecologic oncology, reproductive endocrinology and advanced pelvic surgery. Their clinical expertise and services are readily available to referring community physicians and patients. In addition to our clinical MD faculty, we now have four basic science PhD faculty members with full time appointments in our department. We have a strong commitment to research in female reproductive health and cancer, including basic laboratory and translational clinical research.

The department is aligned with the strategic goals of the institution in achieving operational excellence in clinical practice, medical education and research. To this end, we must recruit the faculty and staff necessary to expand our clinical practice, innovate our medical education and advance research in women’s health. This report demonstrates the department’s commitment and progress in achieving its goals.
